A diet alone can not help ward off type 2 diabetes

To evaluate the effect of sarcopenia on insulin resistance (the cause of diabetes type 2) and glucose levels in the blood in obese and nonobese, the UCLA researchers conducted a cross-sectional analysis of data on 14,528 people to the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey III.Low skeletal muscle mass and strength is often found in obese people and the elderly, sarcopenia has been hypothesized that puts individuals at risk of developing type 2.

They found that sarcopenia is associated with insulin resistance in obese and nonobese. It ‘was also associated with high levels of blood sugar in obese, but not in lean individuals. These associations were stronger among younger than 60, in which sarcopenia is associated with high blood sugar levels in obese and thin, and diabetes in obese people.

The research was conducted as part of the master thesis Dr Srikanthan and not rely on external funding.
