- Programs HWTF made North Carolina a national leader to voluntarily adopt policies to help the campus of fresh air. More than 175,000 students in North Carolina are now protected against the harmful secondhand smoke on campus.- Young people have helped 844 shops and restaurants choose to be smoke-free since the beginning of the initiative Teen in 2003.
Tobacco prevention programs funded by the North Carolina Health and Wellness Trust Fund to continue paying dividends – fewer young people continue to smoke, have become non-smoking public places and most adults who smoke have quit.
- Last year, HWTF helped support more than 8,000 North Carolina QuitlineNC choose to break free from nicotine, a freephone service termination.
The evaluation TPEP noted that challenges remain: continued without funding, North Carolina, it is likely that an increase in smoking among young people. Researchers at the UNC School of Medicine suggests broadening the mission of the program to include adult populations at high risk of HWTF tobacco-related diseases. The researchers also extend the clean air legislation to protect all workers, a stamp tax on tobacco to reduce the smuggling of cigarettes, tobacco and shown to excise more measures to further reduce consumption.

TPEP provides an independent assessment of the results of anti-smoking initiatives HWTF. The evaluation report documents significant new achievements for the 2009-10 fiscal year from tobacco-control initiatives and makes recommendations for addressing the challenges of the current program and future prospects.
